About Marilyn Messik

 A bit about me . . .

When my children were small, I wrote features, fiction and a diary series for magazines before setting up a home-based business, growing a team to sell children’s party goods. I also trained as an antenatal teacher. Thought all was going well until the husband said if he opened one more cupboard and twenty Mr Men party plates fell on his head, he was leaving! Tough decision, but I opted for the husband and opened a shop – possibly the only one where queuing customers were advised to breathe in short pants and try not to push. With our Busy Bags (sanity-savers for parents) selling well, I was able to open a second shop, adding books and educational toys to the mix.

When I sold both the shops, I headed into the travel market, creating off-the-beaten-track trips to New England and publishing an annual guide to Hotels, Country Inns and B&Bs, which over the next few years grew to cover accommodation all over the United States. When I sold out to Thomas Cooke Publishing, I dipped a toe into buying and selling Antique Illustrated and First Edition books and almost by accident started accumulating my own collection of images and photos dating from the 1800s onwards. These eventually evolved into the Vintage Ladies Collection and a range of Journals, Book Logs and Notebooks.

I also set up Create Communication Copywriting and Editorial Services to help small businesses make their business messages as sleek as they could possibly be. I also worked with other writers on their books.

I've blogged for The Telegraph Online, written four Psychic Suspense novels and four Business Books, and there’s nothing I love more than hearing from readers (even if they're not mine!), so please don’t ever hesitate to get in touch ~ marilyn@createcommunication.co.uk
